I've been busy working on some new music that will probably be available later this year.
Along with that, I've also been trying to get my record label, Deep Lever, up and running.
More news to come on this soon.

I decided to take the day off and spent the day riding around the city on the bus and subway. It was a nice change from driving myself around and it allowed me to relax and check out the scenery while not really having a destination in mind.
I did bring my portable recorder with me and captured some subway ambience that I will end up using on a track in the future.

This week has been cooler and cloudy in the LA area. I love it. The summers here are long and hot, and I enjoy the milder weather.

I've been experimenting with vocoders lately in my music and have been getting some pretty interesting results. For those of you who don't know what a vocoder is, it is a sound device (hardware of software) that uses one sound signal (say, a drum set) and imposes certain characteristics from that sound on another sound signal (say, a voice for example). That's an over-simplified explanation of it, but what results is a potentially strange fusion of the two different sounds.

Work on the Red 5 Studios project has been picking up steam. I've been busy for the last month on music concepts. I can't really say too much about the project right now since it has not been officially announced, but there's a fair amount of momentum behind it.
It's good to be working again with my friend, Bill Petras, who co-founded Red 5 with Mark Kern and Taewon Yun. Bill and I have known each other for 15 years. Bill was the art director on World of Warcraft before starting Red 5. He's a great artist and creative collaborator.

About the California fires:
I wasn't directly affected by the fire itself, but smoke filled up the valley for about a week. Even now, I still can catch the faint smell of smoke. The air was pretty dirty and there was a public warning to refrain from going outdoors for extended periods of time.
